Abstract

Objective: To explore the correlation between of senile depression based on the expression levels of nerve synaptic plasticity and leukoaraiosis (LA), serum neurogranin (NG), brain derived neurotrophin (BDNF). Methods: The elderly patients with depression admitted to our hospital from October 2020 to June 2021 were selected as the depression group (53 patients), and the normal physical examinees during the same period were selected as the non-depression group (145 patients). Univariate and multivariate Logistic regression were used to analyze the risk factors of senile depression, and Pearson correlation was used to analyze the relationship between serum NG, BDNF level, Fazekas score and HAMD score. Results: The expression level of serum NG in the depression group was higher than that in the non-depression group, and the expression level of serum BDNF was lower than that in the non-depression group (P<0.05). Univariate analysis showed that age, Fazekas score, serum NG level and BDNF level were associated with senile depression. Multivariate Logistic regression analysis showed that age, serum levels of NG and BDNF were independent influencing factors of senile depression (P<0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that serum NG level was positively correlated with HAMD score (r=0.751, P<0.05), serum BDNF level was negatively correlated with HAMD score (r=-0.721, P<0.05), Fazekas score was positively correlated with HAMD score (r=0.601, P<0.001), and serum NG level was positively correlated with Fazekas score (r=0.640, P<0.05). Conclusion: Abnormal expression of serum NG and BDNF may mediate the occurrence of senile depression based on synaptic plasticity ; and the more severe the degree of LA, the more prone to senile depression.
