Curative effect of VAC and VSD on diabetic foot ulcers

Abstract

Objective: To study the curative effect of vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) and vacuum sealing drainage (VSD) on diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: A total of 118 patients with diabetic foot ulcers were enrolled between October 2020 and January 2022. They were randomly divided into VAC group (VAC) and VSD group (VSD), 59 cases in each group. The wound healing effect after treatment, wound healing time, hospitalization time, times of dressing changes, coverage rate of granulation tissues, bacterial clearance rate and wound reduction rate after 7 d, changes in tissue partial pressure of oxygen, succinic dehydrogenase (SDH), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and blood flow velocity of dorsalis pedis artery before and after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results: After treatment, wound healing effect, tissue partial pressure of oxygen, blood flow velocity of dorsalis pedis artery, SDH, coverage rate of granulation tissues, bacterial clearance rate and wound reduction rate in VAC group were higher than those in VSD group (P<0.05), wound healing time and hospitalization time were shorter than those in VSD group (P<0.05), times of dressing changes were fewer than those in VSD group (P<0.05), and LDH was lower than that in VSD group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Compared with VSD, VAC has better wound healing effect in diabetic foot ulcers, which can more effectively increase tissue partial pressure of oxygen, effectively shorten hospitalization time, reduce times of dressing changes and promote the blood circulation of dorsalis pedis artery.
